Highlights
- New Zealand's brightest opera stars, Lexus Song Quest finalists Filipe Manu and Madison Nanoa and winner Joel Amosa combine their talents to perform the stunning Bellini opera I Capuleti e i Montecchi (Romeo & Juliet) at Auckland's Mercury Theatre next Friday and Sunday nights.
- This is a rare opportunity to see these three amazing talents, under the direction of New Zealand's most prestigious singing coach Frances Wilson, on one stage before they return to their studies in London.
- Completing this cast are Australian tenor Damian Arnold and Opera Factory founding member of Opera Factory Wade Kernot. All are proteges of Dame Malvina Major and supported by Dame Kiri Te Kanawa.
- Written in 1829 it is the story of Romeo & Juliet and the Libretto is from the from the Italian Giulietta e Romeo written two years before. It has remained a staple on the Opera Stages of the world since its first performance on the 11th of March, 1830.
- This opera, is full of drama, anger, courage, love and desperation as the two opposing Mafia families fight it out over the consequences of the proposed union (desired by Romeo and Juliet) of these historically opposed families.
- A collaborative effort, it will result in a wonderful evening for the audience and a lovely enrichment to their lives, seeing a work of genius being brought to life again.
